NEWARK - A Coshocton area teacher and coach was sentenced Monday to 18 months in prison in Licking County for a multiyear inappropriate relationship with a student athlete. Jessica Hamilton, 37, of Frazeysburg, entered a no contest plea to two counts of gross sexual imposition, both fourth-degree felonies, in Licking County Common Pleas Court. Assistant Licking County Prosecutor Paula Sawyers said Hamilton was originally indicted on sexual battery charges, but through plea negotiations, they agreed to two counts of gross sexual imposition for inappropriate touching. The touching occurred in three different counties - Tuscarawas (County), which is where the victim lived at the time; Coshocton County, where the school was; and Licking County, where the defendant lived at the time because the victim would spend nights at her house, Sawyers said. The majority . occurred in Licking County, so we took the case.

Brianna Lohr sentenced to prison for her role in shooting a Columbus man

Newark Advocate NEWARK - A Newark woman was sentenced to 18 to 23.5 years in prison on Tuesday for her role in a shooting that killed a Columbus man in 2019. Brianna K. Lohr, 24, of Newark, pleaded guilty to one count each involuntary manslaughter and aggravated robbery, both first-degree felonies, in Licking County Common Pleas Court. Assistant Licking County Prosecutor Paula Sawyers said on Aug. 7, 2019, Newark police was called to the area of Elmwood Avenue for a reported shooting. The victim, later identified as 28-year-old Matthew Helman, of Columbus, was shot in the side and was pronounced dead at Licking Memorial Hospital. The prosecutor said Lohr and co-defendant Delaney Daniels needed money, so Lohr contacted Helman s girlfriend to meet them under the guise of buying drugs from her when the couple intended on robbing her when she arrived. Sawyers noted Lohr gave Daniels her gun to use during the robbery.
