School districts throughout South Arkansas closed due to inclement weather and hazardous road conditions during the week of January 15, 2024. The Arkansas LEARNS Act requires 178 days or 1068 hours of face-to-face instruction in public schools, leaving districts unable to use alternative methods of instruction (AMI) days as they have in previous years. According to Camden Fairview School District Superintendent Johnny Embry, the loss of AMI days has led to an increased focus on ways districts can build flexibility into their school calendars.
