Provided to parents? well, victor. that bill imposes a huge administrative burden on schools and school libraries that ultimately don t serve the purpose for which they have stated, um, already any parent can log in to school libraries catalog and see the list of books that s on the library shelf. already librarians are anxious to work with parents to talk to them to help them guide their child s reading. it s a solution in search of a problem that simply doesn t exist, but what it will do is empower these political groups. these political advocacy campaigns that are seeking to impose, uh censorship on school libraries and public libraries to remove books that represent the lives of marginalized communities. and that narrow our ability to read to one political viewpoint, which no one should be able to do. ultimately we believe in ....
We know that these attacks are narrowing educational opportunities. denying young people the ability to look into new different lives, different experiences, understand others, understand themselves. and by taking away books that reflect their lived experience as persons of color, as lgbtq persons, they are being denied the opportunity to see themselves in the shelf of the library shelf, but worse, we know from the research that not having access to diverse books actually results in poorer educational outcomes. we ve looked at this research, we actually have a white paper available on our website at unite against good book bans.org that demonstrates that access to diverse materials, to the lives and experiences of people of all sorts. it s very important for improved educational outcomes and more importantly, improved student health. we know this. we hear from students at hearings where there are demands ....
