rd of the Library’s directions. They reflect the Library’s understanding of the current and likely 3 year context in the information and cultural spheres. We expect many more Australians to have access to fast broadband by 2015. We expect that a large proportion or even a majority will be using mobile devices to access content. We expect users to be able to choose from an ever-growing array of online content, and will therefore focus on what we, uniquely, can do, including digitising Australian content, and making freely available digital Australiana more discoverable.
We expect a new Australian Government Cultural Policy to be launched, and that it will extend beyond the performing and creative arts and into the areas of how Australians can access, use and interact with their documentary heritage. We support the Australian Government’s focus on inclusion, especially ensuring that rural and regional Australians have access to the information and opportuni ....

Developing Trove; the policy and technical challenges

1 January 2009 - 12:00
In September 2008 the National Library of Australia embarked on a project to develop a powerful new discovery service to expose the wealth of information in Australian collections.  The new service, branded “Trove”, was released in December 2009 after six months as a beta service.  Trove is not only replacing eight legacy services, but is improving the discovery experience for the Australian public and researchers by including more content and by allowing users to engage with the content. This paper will describe the policy and technical challenges which were faced by the Library during this project, and will outline the Library’s plans for the further development of Trove. ....

Libraries Australia Document Delivery: A System for a Variety of Users

1 January 2010 - 12:00
Libraries Australia Document Delivery (LADD) is a web-based system for interlibrary lending and document delivery between Australian libraries, managed by the National Library of Australia. The LADD system has a broad user base with library members representing government departments, academic libraries, private companies and public libraries.
Interlibrary loan (ILL) staff at these member libraries range from volunteers and part-time workers to full-time professional staff working in a dedicated document supply section. Membership drawn from such diverse library sectors and working with such a range of staff resources shows that the LADD system has developed into a service that is used with success by a variety of members. ....

Changes to the CiP service

Changes to the CiP service
The National Library of Australia has modernised the Cataloguing in Publication (CiP) service to provide a more efficient user experience for publishers.
What has changed?
The CiP service has been renamed as the Prepublication Data Service.
Cataloguing in Publication refers to the catalogue entry printed in publications, which librarians would manually reproduce in their card catalogues. Since libraries now share catalogue records online, they no longer need to be printed in publications.
We adjusted the application form to provide a simpler experience for publishers.
Applications are now processed instantly, eliminating the old ten day timeframe. Once you receive your email confirmation, the process is complete. You can see your prepublication catalogue record on Trove, the national discovery service, within 48 hours  ....
