coming here to serve and that we were all in grief and in pain and we thank them for being here. what doesn t change is the shock and what doesn t change, kendis, that does really break your heart, is knowing that that pain, that shock, that devastation, continues long after we pack up our cameras. long after the attention is no longer focused or maybe the focus, god forbid, has moved on to another mass shooting. this feels in that way like, unfortunately, so many others that i have covered, and yet, in the shortness of time from one shooting to the next, that people went to bed mourning what happened here in el paso and woke up to the horrific news of what happened in dayton, i do think is going to make a lot of people wonder what can we do and maybe put pressure on the people who can actually do it, kendis.
in some way contributed to this and what could i dofferently? o exct that he s doing that? i i m not optimistic, unfortunately. it s one reason we need to get him out of the oval office as fast as possible. you and others have talked. you just spoke about it. and others have talked over the last 24, 36 hours or so about what is commonly called on the democratic side common sense gun legislation. something that we hear every single time there is a mass shooting. and every single time comprehensive reform does not happen. but there s also a question about what we do about the other thing you mentioned, which is clearly a rise in white nationalism. the fbi director says it is real. that it s tied to domestic terrorism. what can we do to address that?
and this last 24 hours, no doubt, unusual in the scope since columbine. you ve never been assigned to something like this and wake up and then there s another shooting, another mass shooting with nine people dead. many of them young people. celebrating a birthday party. i was on air earlier today. i have lost words with all of this in the last 24 hours that we ve been through. you know, pieces of every story stay with you for sure. i remember so vividly driving into the newtown community after we found out that all those little children had been viciously murdered. their lives taken. and i saw christmas lights on some of the homes and i thought to myself, there will be children whose christmas presents are under the tree but
