and costly holiday weekend for july 4th travelers. just how much will drivers have to pay at the pump? good morning to viewers here in the united states and all around the world, it is friday, july 1st. i m john berman with brianna keilar. someone within the trump orbit tried to influence the testimony of cassidy hutchinson. three sources tell cnn that is what hutchinson told the january 6th committee. she was one of the two witnesses who received threatening messages shown at this week s hearing. committee vice chair liz cheney suggested that was only a fraction of the evidence they have related to what she called possible witness intimidation. and the new york times is reporting that trump s political organization and his allies paid for or promised to cover the legal fees of more than a dozen witnesses called to testify in the january 6th investigation. this is raising more ethical and legal questions about witnesses being pressured and the possibility of tru ....
this morning the wnba star brittney griner is in a moscow court for her first trial hearing, this after russian authorities accused her of smuggling drugs into the country. griner has already spent the last 130 days in a russian jail. officials have now extended her detention for six months pending the outcome of this trial. we should note the state department has said griner has been, quote, wrongfully detained. last night, cnn s abby phillip sat down with griner s wife for an exclusive interview. you ll hear part of that conversation in just a moment. back at home, though, new developments in the january 6th investigation. sources tell cnn that someone tried to influence the testimony of cassidy hutchinson, the former trump white house aide who shared damning details about what the former president was doing as the capitol attack unfolded. we ll have much more on that just ahead. we begin, though, this morning, in moscow. cnn s senior international correspondent fre ....
are seeing a new round of trouble. more than 300 flights have been canceled today and more than 2,000 are delayed. pilots are protesting around the country. they say they are overworked and understaffed. it s been extremely frustrating. our pilots continuously step up day in and day out to get our passengers safely to their destinations, and the cumulative effects of these fatiguing schedules is adding up. and despite the high gas prices, it will also be a busy weekend on the roads. aaa predicts an all-time record, 42 million americans will hit the road, driving 50 miles or more for independence day. gas prices are dropping slightly, but they re still high. the average price per gallon of gas at $4.84. cnn s pete muntean is at reagan international airport and leyla santiago is at a gas station in miami. airlines have been bracing for this. how are things shaping up so far? reporter: this is the biggest test yet for airlines since they started to recover from the d ....
at this stage. reporter: right. well, it would be rare to make a search warrant affidavit public, but we are at a point where there is a push for transparency, not just on capitol hill, but the media, including cnn. in court the justice department made a set of arguments and really a couple little details about this investigation that they re saying should keep this affidavit secret, confidential, only for their eyes and for the judge s eyes. in their filing yesterday, they wrote if disclosed, the affidavit would serve as a road map to the government s ongoing investigation, providing specific details about its direction and likely course in a manner that is highly likely to compromise future investigative steps. we know too they have disclosed in this filing yesterday that they are using witnesses already, that they have spoken with, they re using a grand jury in this investigation, and that they also are looking for to make sure there aren t future witnesses whose ....
at $2,000 and extend expiring health care subsidies for three years. jessica dean is live on capitol hill with more on all of this, jessica, what is happening? reporter: well we have the senate in session now, fredricka. they are doing a couple of nomination votes to get everybody here and everybody moving and in the meantime behind the scenes the democrats are waiting on final rulings from the senate parliamentarian because remember they re using the specialized budget process in order to move this legislation forward. it requires the support of only democrats but they also have to pass the test of the senate parliamentarian who is looking over every provision and making sure that it fits within this budget process. so they re waiting on final rules from her. they re also waiting for the congressional budget office to see just how much some they re going to score this and how much it will cost and how much it will effect the deficit. so they re waiting on a couple ....
