Selectboard remembers the late Marty Illick and Terrance Dinnan

“Marty was a force of nature. She was indomitable in her vision and advocacy for environmental conservation,” chair Jerry Storey said.
The board members, along with close coworkers and friends of Illick, spoke about the tenacity and kindness she brought to her advocacy work that will be missed dearly by the community.
“She’s going to be missed incredibly. She was somebody who was always there when you needed her. She was kind and gentle and forceful and it’s a rare person who can be that,” said Gail Albert, the chair of the Natural Resources and Conservation Committee who worked closely with Illick. ....

Police: Two found dead in Charlotte's Lewis Creek, boy survives

CHARLOTTE  Two people died after the boat they were in with their 3-year-old grandson capsized in the Lewis Creek in Charlotte, Vermont State Police said Monday.
Fishermen reported the bodies to police at about 12:30 p.m. Monday in the creek near Spear Street. The two were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police identified the victims as Martha Illick, 70, and Terrence Dinnan, 71, of Charlotte. Illick was executive director of the Lewis Creek Association. 
The boy had been wearing a life vest when the boat overturned, police said in a news release. He was able to make it to shore and was found in a vehicle outside of the nearby home of his grandparents after a brief search, police said.  ....

Leobardo Leo Perez-Rivas passed away on February 8, 2021, at age 78. He was born near the Andes in a little village called Pueblo Nuevo in the state of Merida, Venezuela, on September 12, 1942. His life was cut short while living in Seville, Spain, when he became ill from COVID-19.
Leo was the third of 10 children. He was raised in Venezuela and attended Liceo Libertador school before completing a degree in economics at the University of the Andes in 1965. He was then awarded a grant to travel and study in England. He completed a master’s degree in economics at the University of Exeter and a second master’s degree at the University of Cambridge. ....
