Seattle leaders said they want community members to come out and have a space to grieve and honor George Floyd, but encouraged people to do it safely.

Chauvin was found guilty Tuesday of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and manslaughter in the death of Floyd on May 25, 2020. He is expected to be sentenced in the coming weeks. 
Floyd’s death last year sparked global protests over systemic racism and police brutality. Some of the demonstrations turned violent, including in Seattle, with demonstrators setting police cars on fire and damaging downtown businesses. ....

A silent march led by religious leaders took place on Sunday in Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood, to honor Manuel Ellis ahead of the one-year anniversary of his killing by Tacoma police on March 3, 2020.
Ellis, 33, was a Black man, musician, and father of two. ....

Feb. 26 March 3 marks one year since Tacoma resident Manual Ellis died while in the custody of Tacoma police officers, and his family and supporters are not letting it pass without a public march and call for justice.
That was the message delivered by their attorney, church leaders, Tacoma s mayor and community activists at a Thursday afternoon press conference.
Manuel Ellis died in the hands of Tacoma police officers and foretold his imminent death with the same words spoken by George Floyd and before him, Eric Garner, and so many other nameless persons that we don t know who said, I can t breathe, said the Rev. Leslie Braxton, pastor of New Beginnings Christian Fellowship. ....
