Millions of dollars in state aid are available to school districts for HVAC upgrades, but municipalities must provide matching grants. That’s left some schools with fewer resources feeling left out.

WINDSOR, CT The Windsor Board of Education has appointed Dr. Terrell Hill as their next superintendent of schools, according to a statement. The board appointed Hill Tuesday following a comprehensive four-month search.
Hill, who is currently the interim superintendent of schools in the district, has been a part of the school community since his return to Windsor in July 2014.
In addition to his role as assistant superintendent over the past seven years, Hill had served as an assistant principal at Windsor High School from 2002 to 2009. Along with the leadership work Hill has done in Windsor, he was also the founder of the nationally recognized High School, Inc. program in Hartford from 2009 to 2014.
WINDSOR â Schools will be operating under distance learning beginning next week with a plan to return to the buildings by the end of January, school board Chairman Leonard Lockhart said.
School officials will monitor virus trends between Christmas and the New Year before finalizing the decision, Lockhart said. There will be no classes on Christmas Eve or Christmas.
The school system has been using a hybrid method since coming back in September. Half the students come in on Monday and Tuesday while the other half attend on Thursday and Friday. Wednesdays are distance learning days for all while the schools are cleaned.
The firm began working on the search Dec. 2, the board said in a news release.
Former Windsor Superintendent Craig Cooke, who had held the job since April 2014, left Dec. 4 to become Madisonâs superintendent of schools.
The school board hired JE Consulting at a cost of $10,500, according to Chairman Leonard Lockhart, who also serves as president of the Superintendent Search Committee.
Lockhart said the decision to hire the firm was made during private meetings because it is a human resources matter.
He said the school system requested qualifications for search firms via its website.
âWe had seven firms that submitted their packets, and, after reviewing them, we interviewed the final round of three â we invited three for an interview â and thatâs how we came to the selection of picking the final firm.â
