£30 million bypass in Canterbury rejected by KCC - sparking fears of severe traffic delays at Sturry level crossing

Kent s most snarled-up level crossing looks set to take the strain of more than 1,000 new homes after councillors made the shock decision to reject the final part of a Â£30 million bypass.
The traffic hotspot, in Sturry, is often gridlocked as motorists heading in and out of Canterbury get stuck at the barriers.
More than 20,000 vehicles use Sturry level crossing a day. It is one of the top 10 most-used crossings in the UK
And the issue is now set to worsen after county councillors this week refused permission for a relief road diverting vehicles away from the railway station - just a month after their city counterparts approved two huge housing estates nearby. ....

A heavily delayed project to transform a derelict former arcade and regenerate part of the seafront could be pushed back a further 12 months.
Canterbury City Council is proposing to postpone its multi-million-pound plans to demolish the former Tivoli arcade in Central Parade, Herne Bay, to April 2022 at the earliest.

Its proposals for the site, along with the car parks to the rear in Beach Street, include replacing the eyesore with studios, three shops and 31 homes, of which 10 will be social housing. ....
