Cambridge Union announces term card for Lent 19 January 2021 The Cambridge Union have announced their term card for Lent. One debate, on whether judges make better law than politicians, will see two former Supreme Court Justices, David Neuberger and Jonathan Sumption go head-to-head, while former Home Secretary Amber Rudd will be in conversation Craig Oliver, David Cameron’s Director of Communications, on 9th March. Union President, Freddie Fisk, has explained that, ‘as in Easter 2020, all our events this term will be online and open to all: you don’t need Union membership to attend, ask questions, or get involved.’ Rory Stewart, who ran for the Conservative leadership in 2019, but resigned from the party following Boris Johnson’s election, will speak to the Union, as will former Financial Times editor Lionel Barber. Cambridge University sets out delay to Lent Term return Image Credits: University of Cambridge The university has detailed changed plans for students returning in Lent Term, following new government guidance issued on Wednesday (30th December). In an email to students, Vice-Chancellor Stephen Toope explained that ‘the majority of undergraduate and taught postgraduate students should not return before 25th January’. The university had previously encouraged students, not already in Cambridge, to return ‘during the weekend of 16th and 17th January’. An earlier return will be allowed for some students, however, ‘including: – Medical, Veterinary and PGCE students returning for placements; – Students without access to appropriate study spaces or facilities; ....
Lent term: Update 7 January 2021 The University and Colleges remain open, and will continue to engage in research, learning and education. After considerable reflection, we have taken the difficult decision to move all teaching and learning for undergraduate and postgraduate taught students online for the entirety of the Lent term. Undergraduate and postgraduate taught students should remain where they are currently staying. Exceptions are: clinical Medical, clinical Veterinary and PGCE students; students without access to appropriate study spaces or facilities; and students who need to be in Cambridge for specific reasons, including health or safety reasons. Students in these categories must contact their College directly to discuss their circumstances, and to be given guidance about access to testing. ....
