All-In 5K a success Hillsdale Daily News HILLSDALE TOWNSHIP The All-In 2.5 and 5K community fun run took place Saturday at the Leighr A. Wright American Legion Post 53 in Hillsdale. This spring’s event benefited Key Opportunities, Inc. of Hillsdale who had a large presence participating in the races. The runs presented a unique opportunity for both the American Legion and Key Opportunities to promote inclusion within the community of disadvantaged persons and those with developmental disabilities. Over 70 participants crossed the finish line Saturday with the last group coming in shortly before 9 a.m. Photographs from the event can be found on the American Legion Post 53 Hillsdale Run Page on Facebook. ....
Hillsdale Daily News The Leighr A. Wright American Legion Post 53 is inviting veterans and their spouses interested in learning more about the American Legion to its Veteran’s Open House night at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 24. Dinner will be provided by El Cerritos Restaurant at no cost. Those wishing to attend should RSVP no later than April 20 by calling (517) 932-8600 and include your name, years of service and branch of service, as well as whether or not you will have a plus one. Chris Parks, the Post 53 Commander, Hillsdale County Veterans Affairs Director Renae Shircliff and American Legion Department of Michigan Service Officer Gary Easterling will be onsite to speak and answer any and all questions. “All-In” 2.5 and 5K set for Saturday Hillsdale Daily News The Leighr A Wright American Legion Post 53 of Hillsdale has partnered up with Key Opportunities, Inc. of Hillsdale for their third 5K event occurring at 8 a.m. Saturday at the American Legion Post on Steamburg Road in Hillsdale. Proceeds from the 5K will benefit Key Opportunities, Inc. and their programs which support disabled and disadvantaged individuals in Hillsdale County developing work-related skills enabling them to achieve productive work. The 2.5 and 5K will both start at the American Legion Post, located at 1611 Steamburg Road in Hillsdale, and make its way into the Baw Beese Lake parks systems. ....
Vietnam Veterans recognized for their service Hillsdale Daily News HILLSDALE The Daughters of the American Revolution and Leighr A. Wright American Legion Post 53 of Hillsdale partnered up Monday to host a small ceremony and luncheon to honor Hillsdale County’s Vietnam Veterans. The ceremony took place on National Vietnam War Veterans Day, celebrated annually on March 29. Post Chaplain Richard Smith gave the invocation prior to a detail from the Waldron Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post hosting the nation’s flag with support from the post’s color guard, led by Gene “Sarge” Denning. Following the brief ceremony outside, those in attendance filed into the post for brief speeches by the D.A.R. and State Rep. Andrew Fink before lunch was served. ....
