Venezuela s vegetable sector s production capacity decreased by 75%

Venezuela s vegetable sector s production capacity decreased by 75% Leida Lovera, the director of vegetables of the Confederation of Associations of Agricultural Producers of Venezuela (FEDEAGRO), said that the country s horticultural sector s production capacity had decreased by 75%. The decrease, she said, was the result of the fuel crisis, an asset that is essential to operate the machinery used to disinfect, irrigate, and mobilize the products. Lovera said they were in conversations with the authorities to find solutions to this problem. However, he said, they seem to be unaware of the realities of the agricultural sector. Another issue they are facing is unfair competition due to the entry of imported products. According to Lovera, there are products entering the country from Colombia that are affecting the little national production. A good quality onion that already has a defined marketing network is arriving into the country, he said.
