Advocates call for inclusion of animal rights in Constitution

Animal rights advocates and legislators yesterday braved the rain and cold in Taipei to march for the inclusion of animal rights in the Constitution.
Nearly 100 people some with pets in tow attended the march, which set out from the Presidential Office Building for the Legislative Yuan at about 2pm.
Organized by the Animal Protection Legislation Movement Alliance, a coalition of eight animal rights groups, the demonstration was held to urge the government to draft an amendment enshrining legal protections for animals into the Constitution.

Legislator calls for probe of Internet 'cyberarmies'

Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Legislator Sandy Yeh (葉毓蘭) yesterday called for an investigation into organized online harassment campaigns.
Yeh, a member of the legislature’s Judiciary and Organic Laws and Statutes Committee, convened a special report on disruptions caused by organized groups, sometimes referred to as “cyberarmies,” that harass public officials or spread misinformation.
Nobody is safe from anonymous attacks online, Yeh said, adding that members of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have also been targeted.
“Yet no one takes the issue seriously,” she said. “Is the Ministry of Justice also afraid of being targeted?”
