Helicopter crash in Florida: What we know about Leesburg airport deaths


LEESBURG  A helicopter crashed near Leesburg International Airport on Tuesday evening. 
According to Leesburg Police, the Federal Aviation Administration, Leesburg Fire Rescue and other city officials, the helicopter crashed around 4 p.m. during a training exercise in a marshy area near the airport. 
On Wednesdsay, officials confirmed the downed chopper belongs to Firehawk Helicopters, headquartered the airport. 
Four people were on board. At around 4 p.m. Wednesday, the Leesburg Police Department announced that all four died.

Where did this helicopter crash?
The chopper crashed at the south end of Runway 31, between the airport property and the St. Johns River Water Management conservation area, according to Leesburg City Manager Al Minner. It s extremely swampy and hard to get to, he said.  ....

Helicopter crash Florida: At least one dead at Leesburg airport


Workers with special brush-clearing equipment were called into help rescue crews get to the wreckage, Iozzi said.
City and county law enforcement and firefighting units, Lake EMS, FAA and National Transportation Safety Board officials responded to the scene.
Most of the fire is under control now. US forestry is on scene plowing a line around the scene to prevent any vegetation fires. FFA has been notified of the crash and will start their investigation tomorrow.
Firefighters were still fighting the blaze after 7 p.m.
Authorities did not release the name of the helicopter company.
FAA said it would release the identifying tail number as soon as possible. Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board will be looking into what caused the crash. ....
