right now it s moving inland. the center over north florida moving just south of madison, florida and we can see the very strong north west eyewall that s still moving inland. we saw wind gusts 80, 85, almost 90 miles-an-hour in perry. they re moving to madison and we re seeing the inland wind threat play out while we still have a high storm surge along the coast of the big bend. cedar key you were talking to the person from leavey county. they have 6 to 7 feet of inundation and well south of where the hurricane made landfall. storm surge will stay up for several more hours as these west winds on the back side of idalia continue to push the gulf waters against the coast there. bret: it was a category 4 as it came to shore but came on shore at landfall category 3. ....
Hurricane, likely a category 3 and where it is scheduled to hit along this big bend. we have not really had a hurricane strike this area for a long, long time. i think you have to go back to the 1800s before you would see a path like this. and so those coastal areas there have not necessarily been through this before and i think that being safe is the appropriate thing and erring on the side of caution is the appropriate thing. we will, of course, be mindful of any changes in the path of this storm. i think everybody on the gulf coast from tampa bay until northwest florida must remain vigilant. they have nudged the track a little bit further west over the last 24 hours. we were looking at potentially leavey county. yesterday and today. now we re looking for at taylor county. there are some models that say ....
You are looking at counties that we had in there north of places like dixie and leavey county and also some interior counties. we re working on that but we ll have that done very soon. so the impact, the landfall impact of this storm is likely to be north of tampa bay and probably north of citrus county at this point. again they ll continue to monitor the track. it will start passing over cuba today and once it gets on the other side of cuba we ll have an even better idea what the track looks like. our plan is the same. we understand it is part of living in florida. we anticipate some power outages. if you do have them and using a generator, please make sure that generator is exhausting outside your home and outside your garage. if that is inside a garage or inside a home, you will have ....
