April is National Poetry month and in this edition of
Talk of Iowa, host Charity Nebbe will speak to some young people who have not just found an outlet through poetry and spoken word performance, they’ve found community and a lifeline that s helped them through the coronavirus pandemic.
The conversation begins with the people who helped guide these student poets: Caleb Rainey and Leah Waughtal. Rainey is a poet and spoken word performer, also known as “The Negro Artist,” and the founder and program director of IC Speaks, a spoken word poetry program in Iowa City. Waughtal is also a poet and Movement 515 coordinator, a spoken word program that is part of RUN DSM in Des Moines. ....
