BRIGHTON, Mich. (May 27, 2021) With just over five weeks to go before reimbursements for specialized rehabilitation care are slashed by 45%, Michigan small businesses that care for victims of catastrophic auto accidents are already announcing that they will be closing their doors the result of the auto insurance industry s fierce lobbying against bills that would protect access to care for thousands of victims who require life-saving care.
Passed as part of auto insurance reform in 2019, the 45% slash in reimbursements goes into effect on July 1. The provision will be devastating to thousands of seriously injured patients who will have nowhere to go for the life-saving care they need according to a study commissioned by the
Shirkeyâs criticized by medical group for COVID-19 statements in radio interview By Peg McNichol

DETROIT, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) â Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey attracted criticism after making statements on a WJR-AM radio interview this past Monday.
He suggested in the interview that state health officials should be including the 2-million-plus people who have recovered from COVID-19, inaccurately indicating that they had a natural immunity. He went on to say that would give Michigan the 70 percent immunity supporting full re-opening. According to federal health officials at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the rate of re-infection is still being studied and at this point is unclear, especially with the number of mutations, or variants, present in the U.S.

These 39 bills are not original ideas, as we are seeing this type of voter disenfranchisement legislation being introduced all over the nation, especially in the states that former President Donald Trump lost. Even prior to the introduction of the Michigan Senate Republicans’ voter suppression bill package, similar bills have been introduced in 43 other states.
Michigan voters overwhelmingly passed Proposal 3 in 2018, expanding voter access to the ballot (no-reason absentee voting, same-day voter registration, automatic voter registration), but here we have legislators actively working against the will of Michigan citizens, trying to make it more difficult to vote nibbling around the edges of these constitutional changes. This tactic is on-brand for the Michigan GOP, since, as Leader Shirkey told us, more people voting is bad for Republican candidates.
