A woman who threw away a lottery ticket worth $1 million got it back thanks to the kindness of convenience store owners.
Lea Fiega did not have much time on March 16, the day she bought her scratch ticket for $30 at a Lucky Stop near her work in Southwick, Massachusetts.
I was in a hurry on lunch break and just scratched it real quick and looked at it, and it didn’t look like a winner, so I handed it over to them to throw away, she said. ....

He’s referring to a visit several weeks ago from Lea Fiega, whose lunchtime purchase included a $30 Massachusetts State Lottery “Diamond Millions” ticket, which she hurriedly scratched, frowned at the result, and handed it back to Abhi’s mom, as customers often do when they don’t win.
“And my mom took the ticket and put it behind the counter,” Abhi said.

Abhi Shah tracked down the woman who mistakenly gave the ticket back to be thrown out after believing she hadn t won any money.
A Massachusetts woman had nearly missed out on winning $1 million from a scratch-off lottery ticket when an honest convenience store owner tracked her down and gave the ticket back. Believing she had lost, Lea Fiega handed the lottery ticket back to the store s owner to be thrown out and walked out without bothering to scratch off the rest of the numbers.
Abhi Shah, whose family owns the store in Springfield, scratched off the rest of the numbers to reveal that it was actually a $1 million winning ticket. ....
