Initial trends in Kerala show that of the 87 constituencies, the ruling Left leads in 50 seats when counting of postal votes was taken up first at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
The Congress-led UDF leads in 36 and the BJP on one seat.

NEW DELHI: The Left is on course to create history in Kerala.
The Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF is ahead in 80 out of the 140 seats in the southern state while the Congress-led UDF is leading in 44, as per the current trends.
If the trends hold, Vijayan will stay on as chief minister of Kerala for another five years.
Rare feat
While it is not uncommon for ruling parties to get re-elected in an election, Kerala has stood out as an exception over the years.
In the last four decades, Kerala has not once re-elected a ruling government. The state has stuck to a decades-long cyclical LDF-UDF-LDF-UDF five-year pattern. ....
