The Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF is ahead in 80 out of the 140 seats in the southern state while the Congress-led UDF is leading in 44, as per the current trends. If the trends hold, Vijayan will stay on as chief minister of Kerala for another five years. Rare feat While it is not uncommon for ruling parties to get re-elected in an election, Kerala has stood out as an exception over the years. In the last four decades, Kerala has not once re-elected a ruling government. The state has stuck to a decades-long cyclical LDF-UDF-LDF-UDF five-year pattern. ....
