January 13, 2021 $275 million in business interruption grants were announced last week with about $1.6 million of that going to Galesburg businesses, according to a release from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The Business Interruption Grant (BIG) program was developed by Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois General Assembly to provide economic relief for small businesses hit hardest by COVID-19. Of the businesses getting grants to include the Knox County YMCA, which is set to receive the largest amount of any Knox County business who applied: $150,000. Other businesses include Landmark Cafe and Creperie, City Select Motors, Azer Clinic, Iron Spike Brewing Company, Locke’s Roofing and Siding, and The Packinghouse. In total, 52 businesses in Galesburg received grants with 49 of them being awarded as part of the second round of the BIG program. ....
December 23, 2020 The City of Galesburg has set aside dollars for grants benefiting local businesses that have experienced disruptions from COVID-19. WGIL reported Monday that the program would distribute that amount but it will actually be double, at $500,000. City Council on Monday officially approved a matching $250,000 to go along with $250,000 from an Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity program. Priority for the program will be given to restaurants and bars, spas and salons, and retail stores. Council documents say that businesses that received funds from the State of Illinois’ BIG grants, or Business Interruption Grants would not be eligible for these local funds. ....
