Amber warning for coastal overtopping

Printed and digital download photos available Weather forecasters have issued an amber warning about coastal overtopping. High spring tides and strong southerly winds will lead to moderate coastal overtopping with significant debris brought onto exposed locations around the time of high tide tonight 10.21pm and tomorrow at 10.45am) with the winds then a strong south-westerly. Areas at risk include Douglas Promenade, Castletown Promenade, Shore Road near Port St Mary, Laxey and Ramsey promenades. Water levels may also be high enough to present a small risk of minor coastal flooding to the lowest lying inner harbour areas including the Tongue in Douglas and parts of Castletown harbour.

Geometric art takes shape in Laxey

Entitled ’Bearings’, Sarah Brown has unveiled her collection of mathematically-crafted artwork at Mother T’s community gallery, Laxey. Most of the work has been created over the past three years, during which Sarah, who creates under the name of Sarah L. Shenanigans, underwent a series of life changing events, including undergoing treatment for breast cancer and mental health issues. Sarah used art therapy during her treatment. That led to her discovering something which has fundamentally inspired the way she creates her art work.

Latest addition to police fleet to join in with weekend | News

Police tractor Printed and digital download photos available This tractor is the latest member of the police’s road unit. The force revealed the temporary addition to its fleet in a Facebook post on Thursday saying: ’After supporting last year’s Young Farmers’ Christmas tractor parade we thought why not take part.’ It continued: ’We will also be doing road safety work [with it] and trying to convince the boss to keep it. ’Big thanks to EVF and JDW Engineering Ltd for making this possible.’ There are two runs this weekend covering differing parts of the island. The southern run sets off at 5.30pm tomorrow evening (Friday) from King William’s College and heads down the Castletown bypass, through Gansey and Port Erin, past the Falcon’s Nest and onto promenade before heading back through Ballafesson, Colby and Ballabeg and turning up the Ballamodha through Foxdale to St John’s.
