Edwards Co School Board Reorganization Recap

The Edwards County School Board met in special session Thursday to swear in new members and to reorganize. Members sworn in by judge Mike Valentine include Wayne Doeling, Kayla Bell, and Mark McDaniel along with incumbent board member Jo Rector. All officers of the board were re-elected they include Dale Woods as board president. JR Burester as vice president and Lawrence Speir as board secretary.

Headlines for Monday, November 28th

Hunters weren't the only ones bagging bucks over the last week. The Wayne County Sheriff's Office fielded four collisions dating back to November 22nd, three of them occurring then with the other happening Sunday. Last Tuesday, Claire Bushur of Teutoplis hit a deer in her Toytal Corolla just before 5:30pm in the Mt. Erie area. Not half an hour later, Syanne Schnepper of Louisville clocked a coyote in Bedford Township near County Road 2050 North. Later Tuesday evening, Sheila Mattot of Geff made impact with a deer on Highway 45 near County Road 1150 North. That accident happened just before 10pm. Sunday night at 6pm, Sheriff's authorities were called about a deer collision in Jasper Township from Nicholas Easton. At least $500 damage was reported in all of the accidents and all the deer collisions resulted in estimated repairs that will run north of $1,500. No human injuries were reported. Volunteers for a Progressive Fairfield awarded Smile awards to Reta Mathews and Carol Nale Vaughan. The award was started by the late Mayor Mike Dreith. The group plans to award it annually. "SMILE" stands for SHINE,MOTIVATE,INSPIRE, LEADS, EXCEL. Reta Mathews and Carol Vaughan had been chosen as recipients by Mike before his death. Reta and her late husband Preston could be seen working daily during summer months keeping the landscape at Freedom Park attractive to visitors of the downtown area. Reta has turned over her park duties to Carol, whose commitment to Wasson Park has been ongoing for at least 17 years. Carol notes the Tennant Landscaping donations of plants at both parks and Elaine Gardner, Chuck Reynolds and Angela Vaughan help watering the parks.
