Zambia, Angola eye crossborder oil pipeline project Zambia-Angola-Pipeline April 14, 2021 to 12:24 315 APA-Lusaka (Zambia) Zambia and Angola are set to sign an agreement for the construction of an oil pipeline connecting the two neighbours in a move expected to ease Lusaka’s fuel challenges, APA learnt here on Wednesday.
Angola’s Ministry of Mineral Resources said in a statement that the issue came up for discussion during this week’s meeting between its energy minister Diamantino de Azevedo and Lusaka’s ambassador to Angola, Lawrence Chalungumana.
It said de Azevedo and his Zambian counterpart Mathew Nkhuwa are set to sign a memorandum of understanding on April 19 for the construction of the pipeline that would see Zambia getting diesel from Angola.
Angola and Zambia will sign on 19 of this month, in Luanda, a memorandum for construction of an oil pipeline for the country to supply fuel, the Angolan Ministry of Mineral Resources announced.
The matter was discussed between the Minister for Oil and Gas, Diamantino de Azevedo, and Zambia’s ambassador to Angola, Lawrence Chalungumana.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, three years ago Zambia showed interest in building a multi-product pipeline, from the municipality of Lobito, in Angola’s Benguela province, to supply Zambia and the region with diesel, gasoline and gas.
The Zambian diplomat said at the end of the meeting that next Monday the two ministers would sign, in Luanda, the memorandum for construction of the pipeline.
