good to be with you, i m alex witt in for katy tur. we re right now following breaking news out of washington where the justice department has just announced it will not prosecute attorney general merrick garland for contempt of congress saying in a letter that garland s refusal to hand over audio of president biden s interview with robert hur to gop lawmakers was not a crime. joining us now from capitol hill is correspondent julie tsirkin. so let s interpret what this all means. i guess the implication being this was a political maneuver by congress. reporter: first of all, alex, this was as expected. congress, even republicans here who pushed this contempt vote. remember that just happened a couple of days ago, they successfully voted on party lines pretty much, except for one republican, to hold merrick garland in contempt of congress because he did not turn over those tapes from biden s interview with special counsel hur, and the classified documents case, republi ....
we re now learning the iowa democratic party will announce the caucus results tomorrow. let s go to nbc s sarah dallof in des moines for the latest. reporter: decision night delays in iowa complicating an already complex caucus process. candidates speaking to supporters before even initial numbers were released. and when those results are announced, i have a good feeling we re going to be doing very, very well here in iowa. we re going to walk out of here with our share of delegates. by all indications, we are going on to new hampshire victorious. reporter: the iowa democratic party said quality checks and the discovery of inconsistencies in three sets of results led to those results needing to be verified via paper copies and photos. but that the delays were not the result of a hack or intrusion. as they and iowa waited, candidates struck a positive note. we don t know all the results tonight, but tonight has already showed that americans have a deep hunger ....

the scene behind me at roughly 7:40 this morning. this is video from sky 7. smart says the southbound train would have been moving at 79 miles per hour. full speed when the accident occurred. the force of the impact pushed the victim 50 yards down the track. we also have some interviews here with smart police chief jennifer welsh, saying the railroad has video of the accident from the train. well, certainly, point of impact, hopefully will be captured on the video, but a lot goes into that prior to what happened, what this person was going, how they were acting, were they on the sidewalk or middle of the intersection. there s a lot of factors to look at to figure out exactly how this happen. reporter: they are figuring it out for quite a while. they have not said what happened. they have not said whether it was a suicide or an accident. they are just not saying. smart tells us the traffic arms in the intersection and the lights and the horn of the train were all wor ....
