Evacuations ordered as brush fire grows in eastern Idaho April 23, 2021 GMT FIRTH, Idaho. (AP) A brush fire has prompted evacuations near the small town of Firth in eastern Idaho. The Bureau of Land Management said on Twitter Thursday afternoon that the Lavaside Fire could be seen from Interstate 15 and was estimated at 500 acres (202 hectares). BLM said firefighters were aggressively engaging the fire to protect structures. The agency also urged people to refrain from spring burning activities. The Red Cross has set up a shelter at A. W. Johnson Elementary in Firth. AP NEWS ....

But instead of panicking, the community came together to help those displaced by the fire and support those working to quell it. The Lavaside Fire started around 3 p.m. on April 21 and was finally contained at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, thanks to the efforts of multiple fire departments and districts. Full containment of Lavaside Fire expected at 6 p.m. Saturday, officials say Updated at Share This Courtesy BLM Idaho Fire Facebook page FIRTH – Crews have been working steadily on the Lavaside Fire near Hell’s Half Acre west of Firth. U.S. Bureau of Land Management spokesman Chris Burger tells EastIdahoNews.com the 1,192-acre blaze is 60% contained, as of 8 p.m. Friday night. Full containment is expected at 6 p.m. Saturday. As of 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Bingham County Sheriff Craig Rowland says other agencies involved in battling the flames have pulled out. BLM crews will remain there to protect structures and extinguish hot spots. ....
