Enough? are people trying to get close to the lava? reporter: they re not. it is pretty far away. it is two and a half miles. you can see how far it stretches. this is from past eruptions and it feels like another planet. you look at it and it feels like a movie set. this is the hardened, solidified rock from past eruptions. folks are using this as really that platform for which they are bringing a lei. that man brought it from oahu. he flew in with his family and put it out here as a symbol of offering for the spirit and really what they believe the fire god is producing for this island to continue to grow. that s the other interesting part. you have destructions of homes, but you also have growth. if you go back to 2018, yeah, it destroyed 700 structures, but it brought in 875 acres of new land. that s how they look at this. this island wouldn t be here if it wasn t for mauna loa. ....
