National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc has completed the acquisition of a 51% controlling stake in Akiba Commercial Bank plc (ACB) in Tanzania at a consideration of USD 7.31 million through a share subscription.

NBM plc Chief Executive Officer Macfussy Kawawa expressed in an interview yesterday that the acquisition is in line with NBM plc s current strategic plan which has regional expansion as one of its key thrusts.

We are happy that we are now extending our footprints across the boarders in line with our strategic plan. This acquisition is expected to bring about growth in business for both NBM Plc and ACB as the ACB s business offerings to the standards of NBM plc, said Kawawa. ....

ITSANANA:Tonse Govt Spends K631.1billion In Three Months

It has emerged that Ministry of Finance spent K635.1 billion between July and October 2020 amid less revenue collection of K471.8 billion during the period.
This development left Treasury with the option to borrow K163.3 billion from the expensive domestic market to finance the deficit.
The Nation analysis of the government expenditure shows that between July and October 2020, Capital Hill on average spent K159 billion a month against the average monthly revenue collection of K118 billion.
The development means that within four months, the Tonse administration spent roughly one third or 29 percent of the K2.2 trillion first substantive national budget some economic analysts christened as ambitious soon after Minister of Finance Felix Mlusu had presented it in Parliament on September 11 2020. ....

Tonse Are Liars! Malawians React Over Fuel Prices Hike

Yesterday, Malawians went to bed with heavy hearts after hearing disappointing news by the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) that the prices of fuel have gone up following the depreciation of the Malawi Kwacha.
During a press briefing by MERA Authorities in the Capital Lilongwe, it has been announced that the new price of petrol effective midnight, last night, is now at K834.60 per litre from K690.50 per litre representing a 20.87% price increase, diesel is now sold at K826. 40 per litre from K664.80 per litre representing 24.31% price increase and the price of Paraffin has also gone up from K441.70 per litre to K613.20 per litre representing a 38.83% increase. ....
