As dawn breaks on a remote Great Southern beach, wildlife crews are trying to determine how many whales that beached more than 12 hours earlier have died.
Rescuers are desperately trying to get the remaining 46 whales left alive on Cheynes Beach near Albany into deep water. Sadly, despite the all-night vigil of volunteers, 51 of the animals died overnight.
