New Jersey [US], April 24 (ANI): A new study reveals that there are multiple impacts of different microplastics with varying sizes, shapes, and chemical makeup to the survival, growth, and development of larval fathead minnows, an important prey species in lakes and rivers in North America.
Small plastic pieces less than 5 millimetres in length are ubiquitous in the environment, and they can have significant effects on wildlife are known as Microplastics.
The study was published in Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry.
By demonstrating that microplastics are both physical and chemical stressors, the study supports the need for research that considers microplastics multiple stressors rather than a single contaminant. Importantly, current test methods used in most microplastic studies do not sufficiently investigate ....

Potsdam [Germany], February 8 (ANI): COVID-19 has not only caused a temporary drop in global CO2 emissions, but it has also reduced the share of power generated by burning coal - a trend that could, in fact, outlast the pandemic.
This is the key result of a new study by a team of economists based in Potsdam and Berlin that looked at COVID-19 s impact on the energy system and demand for electricity.
Their findings show that the pandemic while putting a terrible toll on people s lives and the economy, has also opened a window of opportunity to make this current trend of decreasing coal use irreversible: Supported by the right climate policy measures, power sector emissions could decline more rapidly than previously thought. ....
