Irish 49er Olympic Sailor Ryan Seaton Retires 28th May 2021 Northern Ireland Olympic helm Ryan Seaton has retired from competition Two-time Olympic sailor Ryan Seaton from Northern Ireland has announced his retirement after almost 30 years of competition. Seaton, who is originally from Carrickfergus, represented Ireland at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London in the 49er alongside Matt McGovern, finishing 14th. The pair then competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio finishing 10th. In a third campaign for Tokyo, (sailing with Royal Cork s Seafra Guilfoyle) he was beaten for the single place by Dublin debutantes Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove. Seaton began sailing when he was five, taking part in a £1 Saturday school at Carrickfergus Sailing Club. Just another five years later he was crowned Irish National Champion in the Mirror Dinghy and achieved 7th at the World Championships in South Africa. ....
