Illinois Governor JB Pritzker made the announcement Monday morning in Chicago.
“Illinois, like the nation as a whole, has reached a point where, by and large, all the people who were immediately eager to get vaccinated, have already been vaccinated,” Gov. Pritzker said. […]
Pritzker said health officials in the state have been expecting this to happen for “some time now.”
Press release…
Today, State Senator Sue Rezin (R-Morris) joined area veterans’ groups to demand more accountability and actions regarding the COVID-19 outbreak at the LaSalle Veterans’ Home, the deadliest outbreak at a state-run facility in Illinois history.
“The tragedy that occurred at the LaSalle Veterans’ Home shouldn’t have ever happened,” said Sen. Rezin. “The residents of the LaSalle Veterans’ Home served and protected our nation when we needed it, but when they need us to serve and protect them, our state failed them miserably.” ....

Capitol Recap: Pritzker announces plans for broader reopening

SPRINGFIELD – Gov. J.B. Pritzker said Thursday that Illinois will enter the “bridge” phase to full reopening on Friday, May 14. And barring any reversal of current trends, Phase 5, or full reopening, will begin June 11.
He also announced that residents can now obtain COVID-19 vaccines from their physicians’ offices, rather than just designated vaccine sites, as public health officials continue to confront hesitancy within many communities to accept the vaccines.
Thursday’s announcement came as the state reached a new benchmark of having 55% of adults age 16 and over, and 80% of people age 65 and over, having received at least one dose of vaccine, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. Meanwhile, the daily number of new cases, hospitalization rates and intensive care unit usage have all been falling or leveling off. ....

(The Center Square) – Ensuring department directors are qualified to lead a state department is one area some Republicans and Democrats say should be a focus in the aftermath of the LaSalle Veterans’ Home COVID-19 outbreak.
Members of both parties also agree on the need for more hearings into the matter. Just how soon hearings should happen is where there’s a difference.
Last fall’s deadly COVID-19 outbreak in LaSalle killed 36 residents. In total, 109 veterans and 116 employees tested positive for COVID-19.
Veterans Affairs committee chair, state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, said she plans another hearing about the inspector general report released Friday covering the state’s mishandling of the outbreak at the LaSalle Veterans’ Home. ....

Capitol Fax.com - Your Illinois News Radar » More LaSalle Veterans' Home blowback

Some Republicans in the General Assembly, including House Minority Leader Jim Durkin, are calling for a criminal investigation into the coronavirus-related deaths at the state-run LaSalle Veterans’ Home.
The push for a criminal probe comes after a state investigative report was released Friday that found there were widespread failures at the LaSalle facility and the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs that contributed to 36 resident deaths there since November. […]
“I wouldn’t say we’re at the level of probable cause, but it certainly does warrant further investigation on whether or not criminal negligence did take place because not only were (veterans) injured and became ill, but we did have deaths at that facility,” Durkin, of Western Springs, said at a news conference Friday. ....
