Karen Trujillo was known as a “champion of education” throughout Southern, New Mexico. Not only was she the Las Cruces Public School Superintendent, but was New Mexico’s former Secretary of Education and a former Doña Ana County Commissioner.
On Tuesday, during the Doña Ana County Commissioners meeting, the county dedicated March 13, 2021, as Dr. Karen Trujillo Day in her honor. March 13 was chosen because it is the day of her funeral.
“Recently we tragically lost Dr. Trujillo. I personally had to opportunity to know Dr. Trujillo during the 2018 primary’s. The one thing that was first in her mind was serving the community here in Doña Ana County. It was always her service that was always important to her.
