Friendly. Backslapper. That is not his style. He is direct and he will tell you what he feels and what he thinks but he is going to do it on his terms about what he wants to say and how he wants to say it. It is very important, he is a very precise man. This was a precision race that he ran. You guys wrote an article back in november. One of the things you have any is that he could have spent as much as 50 million . He was preparing for that and by the end of it, with the outside groups, and probably exceeded that on the republican side. There was a republican outside group, kentuckians for strong leadership, which ended up pummeling the airwaves with attack ads against Alison Grimes, the democrat, and matt bevin, the republican. What that allowed mcconnell to do was run a very a series of very focused ads that highlighted the Positive Side of Mitch Mcconnell. This is a guy who had a lousy Approval Rating back home, low 40s to high 30s for much of the campaign, and you realize you need
Congress. We will go tumor real to mur iel. Caller happy new year to you both. I just want to say this. I think the president , president obama, i will use his title president , he will be in command in spite of the majorities of the republicans, ok . Because i think the republicans are on the same train to nowhere. If they bring up the repeal of the Health Care Law and also if they dont deal with immigration. When we talk about immigration we should think about people because it involves millions of latinos, asians, from everywhere in the world. It is as though the republicans are saying we dont have to deal with that at the moment in the same manner that they are saying, we are going to repeal the health care act. If you have ever been sick, if you have ever had a chronic illness, cancer diabetes something that the doctors cannot and do not know about you need health care. I think this country needs to look to people like Angela Merkel in germany, who provides a decent minimum wage f
It is time to go in a new direction. [applause] it is time to turn this country around. [cheering applause] manu raju, when you interviewed Mitch Mcconnell, what was he like . It was the most complex race of a 30 year career. He was attacked right off the bat, he had his first primary challenge. He had democrats that made him the top target. He knew that going in. Mcconnell is a guy who looks around corners, and he had planned for four years this campaign. That started in 2010, right after he saw what happened at the republican primary at rand paul. Rand paul beat mcconnells handpicked guy in that primary. At that point, mcconnell realized, i have to recalibrate everything i know about republican primary politics in my home state. He started to make changes and hired key staff and started to build a very sophisticated infrastructure, knowing this would be the most difficult race in his campaign. He said to me, this is the most complex challenge ive ever had to deal with. And he won big
Go to bed, we will know which Party Controls the u. S. Senate. What have we been doing all day, playing with maps and clocks. There are two things we have determined about election day. One is the chances that we know republicans have the majority, if they can get the majority are pretty small. The democrats chances of keeping the majority are greater than most analysts put odds on realized. Very precise odds. Lets go to our wall. We think about Election Night in terms of the map. Another way to start thinking about it is the clock. The poll closings are when races can be projected, when in theory voting stops. We start in contested races in georgia. 7 00 eastern time. Georgia and New Hampshire. Georgia everybody agrees going to a runoff. A republican held seat. We wont know it is going to factor in big later. New hampshire closes at 7 00. Even some republicans say that Jeanne Shaheen is likely to win. For the sake of our exercise lets assume democrats hold that. And lets assume that k
The u. S. Senate. There are two things we have determined about election day. One is the chances that we know republicans have the majority if they can get the majority of their pretty small. Chances are greater than most of the analyst to put on the net realized. We think about Election Night in terms of the map. The other way to think about it is the clock. Restart in the contested senate races. Georgia everybody agrees going to a runoff. We will not [indiscernible] New Hampshire also closes at seven. Jeanne shaheen is likely a winner. For the sake of our exercise lets assume democrats hold that. And lets assume that kay hagan holds it. The race has gotten closer and then kansas at 8 p. M. , another one where lets push it to the republicans. Democrats might win but lets push it that way. We get from 7 00 p. M. , 7 30 p. M. , and in 8 00 vm 8 00 p. M. We are starting at 8 30 p. M. , republicans need six. The win they win, those seem pretty safe. We need three more. Not all these may b
