Inslee signs Columbia River dredging permit bill

May 15—Gov. Jay Inslee signed a bill introduced by state Rep. Larry Hoff, R-Vancouver, streamlining the permitting process for dredging on the Columbia River. Under Hoff's legislation, House Bill 1193, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will have more leeway to maintain navigation channels on the river, if plans have undergone environmental policy reviews and it applied for state water quality . ....

Washington lawmakers this year took a step toward correcting a long-standing injustice. Farm workers may soon be eligible for overtime pay that long has eluded them – a right afforded employees in other industries.
Senate Bill 5172 passed both chambers by wide margins and has been sent to Gov. Jay Inslee. The fact that all Southwest Washington lawmakers supported the legislation (Republican Rep. Larry Hoff introduced a companion bill in the House) reflects the urgency of the legislation.
The law will make agriculture employees eligible for overtime pay after working a 40-hour week and goes into full effect in 2024. Workers will be eligible for overtime pay after 55 hours starting next year and after 48 hours in 2023. ....

A bill establishing a state office to investigate police use-of-force incidents passed the Legislature last week and is on track to be signed into law by Gov. Jay Inslee before the session concludes.
House Bill 1267 will create an Office of Independent Investigations to look into officer-involved cases involving deadly force, injury or sexual assault. Lawmakers from Clark County voted with their parties the Democrats from the 49th Legislative District were in support, and the Republicans from the 17th and 18th districts were in opposition. ....
