Nichole Johnson is adding to the diversity of the wine and spirits industry, even abroad. She had an idea to start the first champagne brand that is sold in the UK, so she pushed the boundaries and released Lapin Rouillé Champagne.

Women of color are carving out their own niches, although the industry has been historically dominated by white males. Nichole Johnson is among trendsetting women who are breaking barriers, similar to Marie Inès Romelle who entered the wine and spirits world as a Black producer of champagne in France. Nichole Johnson has launched a 100% Pinot Meunier Champagne called Lapin RouillÃ© in the UK â the first female black-owned Champagne brand to go on sale in Britain.

Meaning ârusty rabbitâ in French, the Champagne takes its name from Johnsonâs drinks distribution company, Rusty Rabbit International.
Going against the grain Lapin RouillÃ© is made from 100% Pinot Meunier. All of the grapes that go into the blend were sourced from a single grower producer.
Its crimson red bottle and rabbit logo make it stand out from the more traditional Champagnes on the market. ....
