What a difference 24 hours makes. On Friday night the University of Northern B.C. Timberwolves men’s basketball team defeated the Langara Falcons 66-61 before coming completely unhinged against the Capilano Blues losing 92-60.
“I thought we played hard on Friday and we executed and played well. I was very impressed with the way the guys played,” said T’wolves coach Zane Robison. “We just lost our focus against Cap. I could see it even in the shoot-a-round. We just seemed to lose our focus. Our mental toughness was challenged and I was a little disappointed.”
Against the Blues, zone defence the T’wolves were unable to make the most of their chances shooting just 30 per cent from the field. Guard Jari Deustch led the team in scoring with 14 points while Andrew Sturgeon scored 12.

It takes more than one player or coach to form a championship-calibre team.
In the case of the 2010 UNBC Timberwolves men’s basketball team, capturing a National Championship banner that now hangs proudly above the court of the Northern Sports Centre came down to sacrifice and a commitment to excellence.
After falling short on home court at Nationals the year prior, head coach Mike Raimbault took a team full of stars that included Inderbir Gill, Sam Rapheal and Matt Mills and tweaked the mix by adding sharpshooter Jose Araujo, Sebastien-Kevin Louis along with Kevan Madsen.
