Fire in Junction City worries local businesses and residents Some residents are under a Level 1 evacuation order, which means to be ready. Local businesses and residents are sharing their concerns as a fire that sparked up Sunday night at the Wood Recovery mill continues to burn in Junction City. Multiple fire agencies in Lane County responded to the fire, which started at about 4:30 p.m. in the area of Prairie Road and Meadowview Road. Crews said the blaze could last for a couple of days at the very least. Nearly a dozen crews are still hard at work trying to get the fire put out. Fire officials told KEZI 9 news that high temperatures, strong winds and low humidity coupled with wood chips, saw dust and harvested timber create the perfect environment for a fire to grow. ....
Electronics Community members can recycle electronics at NextStep Recycling in Eugene, where staff will refurbish the device and remove any data or personal information. Then the device is either given to someone who doesn’t have technology access, or recycled through the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. The organization also accepts unwanted Christmas lights and donates proceeds to a charity of the organizations choosing. NextStep’s Donation and Training Center is located 245 Jackson Street in Eugene. Donations are accepted Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The donation center will be closed Jan. 1.

Boy Scout Troop 182 kicked off its largest annual fundraiser Saturday. “We are picking up Christmas trees for our troop to fundraise money,” Boy Scout Eric Amacher said. Community members have until January 31st to schedule pickups, and the trees are then taken to Lane Forest Products, so they are not wasted. If you live in Eugene, Springfield, Junction City or the surrounding areas, the troop can come to you on any weekend and certain weekdays. ....
