NHAI spent INR 1.7 lakh crore on land acquisition for NH development in the past five years. State governments spent INR 13,908 crore on land acquisition cost. Maximum disbursement to land owners: Maharashtra (INR 27,568 crore), Uttar Pradesh (INR23,134 crore), Kerala (INR 22,119 crore). NHAI urges states to contribute to land acquisition cost for more projects. Land acquisition cost is 20% of overall highway project cost. NH construction has increased to 30 km/day from 13 km/day in the past five years.
