United Way of Lamar County 5K raises $4.3K


RENO — Participants at the fourth annual Live United 5K Run/Walk faced an uphill trek followed by a brisk headwind Saturday morning as they made their way around the Pine Ridge Golf Course in Reno.
“We had a great showing today with over 50 runners and walkers,” said Jenny Wilson, director of the United Way of Lamar County. “I would say the majority are walking, so never be afraid to come out.”
Wilson estimates more than $4,300 will be added to United Way coffers as a result of the roughly 3.1-mile event.
Paris High School junior Adam Hartman took the first place medal in men’s competition with a time of 20.45 followed by Prairiland High School senior Edwardo Banda with a time of 21.19 for second place and Osvaldo (Chato) Viveros with 22.36 for third. ....

Paris Pump Track to host two events this month


Paris’s newly built pump track is already attracting some big name competitions.
Pump Track Paris, Texas will be host to a Red Bull Pump Track World Championship qualifier on May 29, and the very next day it will be home to the USA Pump Track Championships.
The USA Pump Track Championships will be making its first stops at Velosolutions Pump Tracks in Gaston County, North Carolina, on May 16 and in Springdale, Arkansas, on May 23 before coming to Paris. All rounds will lead to the Road to Oz Trails final in Springdale at Jones Center’s Runway Bike Park. The final date has not yet been announced. ....

Paris lost a dear friend last week when Eddie Clement left this world to join the saints in heaven. His generosity, his servant heart and his love of God, church and family all are part of the legacy he leaves behind.
Born in 1965, Eddie grew up in Duncanville and played soccer for Duncanville High School, where he graduated in 1983. He graduated from University of Texas-Arlington in 1990 with a business management degree and joined the Frank Homer Sr. family when he married Monica Homer in 1994. The couple moved to Paris in 2000 after Eddie joined the family Sonic business and became operations manager for its Paris operations. He and brother-in-law, Mark Homer, became partners in the business after the death of the family monarch. ....
