The Australian Government donated Rs.952 million worth of essential respirators to strengthen COVID treatment services. Australian High Commissioner David Holly and UN Resident Coordinator Hanaa Singer-Hamdy were also present. The Australian Government has donated Rs.952 million worth of essential respirators to strengthen COVID treatment services. A stock of essential medical equipment including oxygen cylinders was handed over to the Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi yesterday under the coordination of UNICEF with the financial assistance of the Government of Australia to strengthen the COVID control programme in the country. The equipment was symbolically donated by UNICEF Resident Representative in Sri Lanka Emma Brigha

Sri Lanka seeks World Bank loan to purchase COVID-19 vaccines

Share: COLOMBO (News1st): The government has begun talks with the World Bank to obtain a soft loan worth Rs 10 billion to purchase vaccines against COVID-19, the Sunday Times newspaper has reported. It is also looking at the possibility of obtaining funding from the Asian Development Bank and the European Union for this purpose, the report citing a government official read. Sri Lanka has submitted a preliminary application to COVAX, a global initiative aimed at providing equitable access to the vaccines, additional secretary of public health services Dr Lakshmi Somatunga said. Three technical sub-committees are looking into various aspects of the COVID-19 vaccine including its storage and the prioritization of target groups to receive the jab.

Sri Lanka : New centers to treat COVID-19 infected people

Dec 16, Colombo: The Minister of Health has instructed to set up new treatment centers to care for hundreds of new COVID-19 cases reported daily. According to the COVID-19 Suppression Performance Action Review Committee, between 500 and 600 new cases of COVID-19 are reported every day islandwide and the number of recovered cases is around 500. The Action Review Committee met under the patronage of the Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi at the auditorium of the Ministry of Health this morning (16). As between 500-600 cases are reported daily, the attention of the Minister of Health was drawn to the expeditious setting up of treatment centers for the infected patients.

Health Ministry launches Food-Based Dietary Guidelines with FAO support

Ministry of Health Additional Secretary (Public Health Services) Dr. Lakshmi Somatunga launching a website. Deputy Director General (Public Health Services) Dr. H. S. R. Perera, Nutrition Division Actg. Director Dr. Lakmini Magodaratne, Dr. Yasoma Weerasekere, and Dr. Anoma Basnayake look on The Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) launched the Sri Lanka Food-Based Dietary Guidelines (FBDGs) at an event held in Colombo. FAO in a press release said: Country specific FBDGs are one of the FAO/WHO recommended tools to improve healthy eating habits and lifestyles of individuals and populations. Sri Lanka was one of the countries to endorse the FBDGs in the Framework for Action agreed at the Second International Conference on Nutrition.
