Charter school company has history of success

LAKELAND Polk County School Board member Sarah Fortney wanted answers.
At a recent School Board work session, she began asking about IDEA Public Schools, a non-profit charter school company based in Texas that has applied to open a School of Hope” in 2023 for an area in North Lakeland with three chronically underperforming schools Crystal Lake and Griffin elementary schools and Kathleen Middle School.
Fortney found some troubling information using a quick Google search and asked IDEA school officials at the Feb. 23 School Board work sessions whether IDEA Public Schools has a management company that might have been handling its finances. ....

Lake Wales Charter District investigating former Principal Jennifer Barrow

LAKE WALES The Lakes Wales Charter School District has launched an investigation into the administration of Hillcrest Elementary School to determine whether recently removed Principal Jennifer Barrow created a hostile work environment for teachers and staff at the well-regarded school, which would constitute a violation of Florida administrative code.
“The Lake Wales Charter Schools HR Director notified the Interim Superintendent of multiple complaints by current and former employees regarding harassment and intimidation by the leadership,” Interim Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer Alricky Smith wrote in a letter to the district’s board. “These complaints have yielded allegations of an oppressive environment at the School under the leadership of Principal Jennifer Barrow.” ....
