Lake Health officially joins UH

Lake Health is officially a member of the University Hospitals Health System, making the Lake County provider UH s largest addition to date.
The two organizations, which in December announced their intention to integrate, have completed the member substitution process to bring Lake Health into UH, adding multiple hospitals and ambulatory centers and more than 3,000 caregivers and 600 physicians to the Cleveland-based health system, according to a news release. The addition of Lake Health expands our geographic footprint and is consistent with our strategy of bringing care close to home for our patients throughout Northeast Ohio, UH CEO Dr. Cliff Megerian said in a provided statement. It will ensure convenient access to the most advanced health care and services for patients in Lake County and surrounding communities now and in the future.

Deals with Lake Health and Western Reserve give University Hospitals ‘all the pieces of the puzzle

In the final months of 2020, University Hospitals rounded out a year of great uncertainty financial and otherwise with two deals that significantly expand the health system s regional footprint.
In November, the system gained a minority interest in Western Reserve Hospital, an independent, physician-owned hospital in Cuyahoga Falls, giving UH its first inpatient location in Summit County. In December, Lake Health agreed to join University Hospitals, ending the Lake County health system s search for a partner that began in early March, just days before the first cases of COVID-19 were detected in Ohio.

The Lake Health board of trustees and UH s board of directors approved the agreement on Wednesday, Dec. 16. Lake Health said in a news release on Thursday, Dec. 17, that completion of the transaction is subject to regulatory approval, and that the move will assure convenient access to the most advanced health care and services for patients in Lake County and surrounding communities now and in the future.
Cynthia Moore-Hardy, president and CEO of Lake Health, said in a statement, Our goal has been, and continues to be, to provide access to the highest quality care for the people of Lake County and surrounding communities, right here at home. Joining UH will enable us to enhance existing health care services close to home and continue to improve health outcomes for the community.
The Lake Health Board of Trustees and University Hospitals Board of Directors approved the agreement Dec. 16.
Completion of the transaction is subject to regulatory approval.
