Man loses $1,070 on bus after withdrawing money from bank

Man loses $1,070 on bus after withdrawing money from bank A 25-year-old Monroe man reported losing $1,070 after he dropped his wallet on a Lake Erie Transit bus last week. The man told the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office he rode the bus about 3:15 p.m. to withdraw $1,000 from his grandmother’s bank account so she could pay some bills. He added that to $70 he already had. On his way home, he realized the wallet was missing and returned to the bus he rode. He found the wallet with his credit cards and identification inside, but the money was missing. He reported the money missing to the bus service and asked to review a surveillance camera on the bus. The company said it only releases camera footage to police after a report has been filed, which the man did, a deputy’s report said. Authorities are checking the footage. The grandmother said the money was all she had and wants to press charges against the offender if the person if identified.

Oaks of Righteousness to open Village Market next month

Oaks of Righteousness to open Village Market next month For the first time in a long time, the City of Monroe s Orchard East neighborhood will have its own grocery store. The Oaks of Righteousness recently purchased, and is currently in the process of transforming, the defunct Pop Stop Party Store at 1104 E. Fourth Street into the Village Market, which will be a grocery store that also offers educational services designed to encourage healthy dietary habits. The store is expected to open March 1. The market project is the brainchild of Oaks Pastor Heather Boone, who told the Monroe News in November that she hoped to open both an ice cream parlor and grocery store on the east side of Monroe within the next couple of years.
