While most families across the country will tuck into a Christmas feast, Fijians affected by super storm Yasa will be foraging in what’s left of their farms in search of food.
For the people of Nacamaki on Koro Island, Navakawau on Taveuni and those in Wailevu, Cakaudrove, this Christmas would be one of the most difficult because of the devastation caused by the Category 5 cyclone.
Vuna district representative Laisiasa Tuimouta said Christmas this year would be difficult for about 200 people in Navakawau because their farms and breadfruit crops were severely damaged.

Preparations in the village of Somosomo on Taveuni continued this morning as villagers put up final touches to secure their homes.
Cakaudrove Provincial Council chairman Ratu Jekesoni Yavalanavanua said the state of readiness and preparation within villagers in the province was commendable.
Ratu Jekesoni said this was especially true for villages that had been badly hit by TC Winston in 2016.
“On behalf of the council, we are appealing to people to take heed of the weather warnings and act accordingly,” he said.
“We are calling on parents to please keep a close tab on their children’s whereabouts.”

Navakawau Village on Taveuni was a hive of activity early this morning as villagers gathered at the village hall for the TC Yasa briefings organised by the village’s National Disaster Committee and Red Cross officials dispatched to the village.
Vuna district representative Laisiasa Tuimouta said villagers met at the hall at 7am today where they were briefed on the village’s evacuation procedures.
Mr Tuimouta said they were experiencing fine weather this morning but were looking forward to a drastic change as TC Yasa approached the Fiji group later today.
