Evidence as the chp tries to figure out what happened here. Now, earlier this morning in emeryville, three people died when the suv they were in slammed into a big rig parked on the shoulder of i80 approaching bay bridge toll plaza. Another person is at the hospital with major injuries in that crash. The big rig driver told chp that he was pulled over on the righthand shoulder sleeping in his rig when he felt the impact and saw the suv stuck underneath the rig. The big rig driver was not injured. It is too soon to tell whether or not alcohol or drugs were a factor in either of these crashes, according to chp. However, we did ask the sergeant out here and he said its possible that the rain was a factor because even though it wasnt a really soggy wet morning as weve had over the last couple of days, the roadways were wet at the time this vehicle went off the roadway and crashed into that tree.
