Lafayette’s city and parish councils are preparing to put a handful of local property taxes on the ballot for renewal in October in what could be a challenging decision on tax rates.
The councils oversee five local property tax millages in Lafayette set to expire in 2022, giving local governing bodies until mid-2023 to have residents vote on renewing the taxes, typically for another 10 years. Though the councils have more than two years to put the renewals before voters, doing it earlier gives them more time to determine what taxes voters will approve if their initial proposals fail this fall.
