from the edge of the mojave desert to las vegas. it could create jobs and be a lifeline for the area devastated by the housing slump. it is a costly gamble for taxpayers because it hinges on the assumption that californians will use the trains to get to vegas even though those from the la area have to drive 100 miles to get on board. if you take away the interest construction costs are expected to be as high as 6 and a half billion dollars. the average round trip is expected to come between 75 and 100 that s similar to a flight from la to vegas. national politics are also expected to come into play on the project s future. nevada is a battle ground state. it could lift the president s reelection prospects in the state. if you could get a plane flight for 100 bucks and don t want to drive who would take the train s train? the hope is it will become sort of a travel hub and
