Curator Rujeko Hockley on How She Landed a Museum Career Straight Out of College, and the Advice She'd Give Her Younger Self

How the esteemed Whitney curator got her start.

Curator Rujeko Hockley has always woven art history into the fabric of her life’s pursuits. She described a turning point that came during while an undergraduate at Columbia University, when she realized that art history did not have to be such a narrow course of study.
“Topics I was interested in around questions of equity, questions of race, questions of history, questions of class all of these questions could be a legitimate and valid way to think about the history of art,” she said.
After graduation, she stepped into the museum world as a curatorial assistant at the Studio Museum in Harlem. Since then, she’s taken on roles at the Brooklyn Museum, co-curated a Whitney Biennial, and now works as an assistant curator at the Whitney Museum. ....

In Malibu, Eli Broad lowers home price to $58.5 million

The price keeps dropping for Eli Broad’s architectural marvel overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The billionaire philanthropist just relisted his Malibu home for $58.5 million, down around 22% from his original ask of $75 million.
One of the most stylish properties currently up for grabs in Southern California, the contemporary gem was designed by Richard Meier, the Pritzker Prize-winning architect behind the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art and San Jose City Hall. Wrapped in sleek aluminum panels and frosted glass, the curvaceous beach house resembles another of Meier’s works the Getty Center in Brentwood.
The estate combines two lots for a total of 105 feet of beachfront. It takes full advantage of the coastal setting with glass-lined living spaces, a second-story balcony and wood deck that spans the backside of the home, descending via staircase to the beach below. ....

Some L.A. (city) residents who ve had trouble making rent due to the pandemic can apply for rental assistance beginning on March 30.
The city s Housing and Community Investment Department is offering more than $20 million in state and federal funds to support low-income renters and rental property owners.
Applicants have to make no more than 50% of the area median income that means about $39,450 for one person.
BTW, the state launched its rental assistance program, Housing Is Key, and is currently accepting applications. ....
