Kyrgyzstan’s Emergencies Ministry will deliver humanitarian aid to the Lyayleksky district in the Batkensky region blocked by Tajikistan, Deputy Minister of Health and Social Development Aliza Soltonbekova told a briefing in Bishkek on Saturday. The Emergencies Ministry will deliver humanitarian assistance to the Lyayleksky district, the deputy minister said.
On Saturday, Health Minister Alymkadyr Beyshenaliyev acknowledged problems with sending medicines and doctors to the Lyayleksky district as the road there had been blocked by Tajikistan. It’s possible to get there only through the Tajik territory.

BISHKEK, May 1. /TASS/. Kyrgyzstan recorded the movement of military equipment from Tajikistan on Saturday to the border area between the two states, the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security said. In the direction of the Tajik-Kyrgyz state border on Tajikistan’s soil the movement of military equipment was registered, the service said.
According to the service, the Tajik side in the settlement of Tort-Kocho fully blocked a road linking two Kyrgyz areas. The situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border is considered as rather tense, the statement said.

Tajikistan’s forces shell Kyrgyz territory, Bishkek says
Tajikistan’s forces started shelling Kyrgyzstan’s territory on Saturday, the Border Service of the Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security reported. In the area of Arka in the Leileksky district of the Batkensky region (Kyrgyzstan) the Tajik servicemen opened fire on Kyrgyz citizens’ houses, the statement said.
According to the Border Service, the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border remains tense. The border units of the Kyrgyz Border Service of the State Committee for National Security are on the defensive.
The situation on the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan near the Golovnoy water intake facility escalated on April 28, after clashes had sparked between residents of the two countries’ border areas. The EU on Friday (30 April) said it “regretted” a serious escalation of tensions at the border between the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan, resulting in numerous casualties.
The clashes, which are not occurring for the first time, are apparently due to a lack of clear delimitation of borders and claims by both sides to scarce water resources.
According to
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, which has services for both Central Asian states, Kyrgyzstan raised to 13 the number of people killed in clashes along a disputed segment of its border with Tajikistan before a cease-fire was announced by both sides.
